Southern Miss freshman running back Frank Gore, Jr. and sophomore linebacker Hayes Maples have both been named All-Conference USA second teamers.
Gore, Jr., who was also a member of the C-USA All-Freshman team, finished the season with 805 total yards and three touchdowns.
The Miami native’s 708 rushing yards were the most by a Golden Eagle since Ito Smith rushed for 1,415 in 2017 and the most by a Southern Miss true freshman since Damion Fletcher rushed for 1,388 in 2004.
Maples, a Hattiesburg native, led the team with 94 tackles, 34 of them being solo. He also added a half sack, as well as one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Maples posted double-digit stops in five different games, including a 15-tackle performance versus Tulane, and his 9.1 tackles per game ranked eighth across the conference.
Ten other Golden Eagles received honorable mention honors: OL Arvin Fletcher, OL Khalique Washington, WR Jason Brownlee, DT Tahj Sykes, LB Santrell Latham, DB Tyler Barns, DB Natrone Brooks, DB Malik Shorts, K Briggs Bourgeois, and LS T.J. Harvey.
