Gov. Tate Reeves has declared May 19-25 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Mississippi.
Officials are urging residents to take a moment this week to show gratitude to someone who works in the EMS system. That includes emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, firefighters, and police officers.
“Members of emergency medical services teams remain vigilant, ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” a press release from the Mississippi State Department of Health notes. “Their quick response and emergency care can dramatically improve the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury.”
This year marks the 50th anniversary of National Emergency Medical Services Week, which others states across the U.S. will be celebrating simultaneously.
In Mississippi, the MSDH and the Office of Emergency Medical Services are inviting the public to come celebrate EMS workers at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson on Tuesday, May 21. The event, which will last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature EMS vehicles, equipment, educational booths, vendors, and live safety demonstrations.
