Governor Tate Reeves has officially coined November as “Adoption Awareness Month” in Mississippi.
The recently re-elected governor issued a proclamation that serves to recognize the work done by adoption professionals in the state and the families who have welcomed children in foster care into their homes.
Reeves also highlighted the state’s large demand for parents willing to take in youth, particularly older ones, who continue to live in the foster system and are eligible for adoption.
“November is Adoption Awareness Month in Mississippi,” Reeves posted on X. “We’re proud and honored to recognize the very special families who open their hearts and homes to adoption!”

The Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services finalized the adoption of 637 foster children during state fiscal year 2023. Officials are hoping to get those numbers up come 2024.
