Gov. Reeves ready to ‘watch heads explode’ over Musk’s Twitter purchase

A couple of weeks ago, Governor Tate Reeves wished billionaire Elon Musk luck in his endeavor to purchase Twitter. Now that the Tesla CEO and the social media giant have entered into a definitive agreement, Reeves had a few more thoughts.

The Republican governor went to where else but Twitter on Monday night and said, “Time to sit back and watch heads explode over the news.” Reeves also called Musk’s $44 billion purchase “a victory for free speech and a loss for those wanting to censor views they don’t like.”

The transaction comes 11 days after the company put in place a limited shareholder rights plan, also known as a poison pill, to prevent Musk from acquiring more than 15 percent of Twitter’s outstanding stock.

After meeting with Musk, Twitter shareholders urged the company to not let the opportunity slip away. Musk, a self-proclaimed “free speech absolutist,” has secured $46.5 billion to finance the transaction, including $25.5 billion of fully committed debt and $21 billion in equity financing. Under the terms of agreement, Twitter shareholders will receive $54.20 for each share of common stock owned.

The deal is expected to take three to six months to close, according to Twitter’s chief executive Parag Agrawal.
