The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport has been granted $1 million to install a new passenger boarding bridge.
Congressman Mike Ezell and Senator Roger Wicker announced that the funding has been made available to replace the current bridge which has reached the end of its “useful life.” The update to the airport’s infrastructure is expected to improve both efficiency and safety for travelers.
“The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is a strong partner in the economic vitality of South Mississippi,” Ezell said. “This grant will allow the airport to continue serving South Mississippians and those traveling to our community, ensuring a more efficient and safer travel experience as we enhance the infrastructure that supports our growing community.”
“When people travel through our airports, whether for travel, leisure, or business, they should have a pleasant experience. This new passenger jet bridge will help ensure this outcome happens in Gulfport,” Wicker added. “Supporting Mississippi’s airport infrastructure will continue to be one of my top priorities as a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.”
The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is centrally located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Gulfport and is the second-largest airport in the state.
The airport is approximately two miles from Interstate 10 and the Port of Gulfport, and according to officials, it welcomes nearly 800,000 travelers annually.
