The Mississippi State Department of Health is adding a dose of soul to one of its major events this year.

MSDH officials announced that its “Be in Good Health” symposium will feature a gospel choir competition among other events to boost the interest of the public.

On Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., folks are invited to come out to the Jackson Convention Complex where informative TED-style talks from health experts, free on-site health screenings, and a “Who’s Who” of gospel choirs will be on display.

The competition will consist of at least eight choirs: Anderson United Methodist Church Praise Team, Pastor J Artie Stuckey & VOR, Jemero Carter & Kingdomology, I Love Me Ministries, New Horizon Children’s Ensemble, Revival Worship of Jackson Revival Center, DOXAMUZIQ, and White Oak United Methodist Church.

Screenings begin at 8:30 a.m. The competition and symposium will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To reserve a seat, click here.

The symposium is being put on by the MSDH’s Office of Health Equity and the Community Engagement Center of the Jackson Heart Study.
