A Hinds County detention officer cadet has been detained for bringing illicit substances into the jail.

According to Sheriff Tyree Jones, illegal narcotics were discovered in the unidentified female cadet’s locker on Thursday. The contraband was found during a routine checkup by staff at the facility.

The cadet, who was set to start training to be a certified detention officer in the near future, has been charged with the introduction of contraband to a correctional facility. She is the second cadet arrested in a week for bringing barred substances into the jail.

Jones says that his department will continue to be aggressive and investigate employees and outsiders trying to smuggle prohibited items into the facility.
