Hinds County Election Commission co-conspirator pleads guilty

A Mississippi woman has pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, fraud, and bribery in connection with the Hinds County Election Commission case.

Sudie Jones-Teague is facing five counts of fraud and one count of bribery after her company, New Beginnings LLC, received $118,000 in election grant money to sanitize the election commission headquarters and the circuit clerk’s office, as well as provide catering at several events.

According to State Auditor Shad White, these services were not completed, leading to Jones-Teague’s arrest in February.

“I am grateful for the work of the investigators in my office and the prosecutors to get to this point,” White said. “This is one more step towards justice for the improper spending of election funds.”

Now, Jones-Teague has agreed to testify against her co-conspirators — which include Hinds County Election Commissioner Toni Johnson and Clinton resident Cedric Cornelius — and pay $81,216 in restitution.

Sentencing will be held at a later date.
