Hobnob Mississippi set for October 27

The Mississippi Economic Council’s (MEC) HobNob Mississippi is returning to the capital city on Thursday, October 27.

Scott Waller, President and CEO of the MEC, says this year’s political networking event at the Mississippi Coliseum will business owners and professionals the opportunity to hear from state leaders. Unlike most other years, the upcoming edition will be kicked off by the governor, who is typically the last speaker.

“This is just a good opportunity for everybody to get back out, hobnob, make those connections, and hear from our state leaders,” Waller said on The Gallo Show. “We’ll actually be kicking off the morning with Governor Reeves. He will be our first speaker. We normally have the governor last, but from a scheduling perspective, it was best to have him first. We’re excited about him coming in and kicking off the morning.”

Waller noted that the MEC is promoting a talent retention initiative to help young professionals form business connections in order to make the state a more attractive place to work and live. He believes Hobnob Mississippi is a golden opportunity for young professionals to form connections with others in the industry as well as state politicians who are looking to create a more business-friendly environment in the Magnolia State.

“It’s not just keeping more or retaining more young professionals. It’s how do we attract more young professionals to the state as well? I think to give them that opportunity to come here, be successful, be part of the community, and grow,” Waller continued. “We are very fortunate that our state leadership, right now, understands the importance of this issue with workforce development.”
