A student-athlete at Holmes County Central has been pronounced dead following a drive-by shooting on Wednesday.

Clyzavion Landfair, 17, and three others were shot on Highway 51 in Goodman near the Main Street intersection. Landfair passed away by the time first responders transported him to the hospital.

In the hours after the shooting, both coaches and student-athletes at Holmes County Central went to social media to express their grief. Landfair was a multi-sport athlete, who played basketball and football for the Jaguars.

“Just talked to you this morning. You were supposed to be at basketball practice. I love you forever kid,” Holmes County Central head basketball coach DeAngelo Priar wrote on Facebook with a broken heart emoji.

Marcus Rogers, the school’s head football coach and athletic director, posted a picture of Landfair with followers flooding in to offer their condolences.

As of Thursday morning, SuperTalk Mississippi News has not been informed if any suspects have been taken into custody.

Landfair was a junior wide receiver for Holmes County Central, which put together one of its best seasons in recent history. The Jaguars went 12-1 before falling to West Point in the latest round of the MHSAA 5A playoffs.
