Home alcohol delivery OK’d by Mississippi Legislature

If you’ve ever dreamed of having alcohol delivered right to your doorstep, the Mississippi Legislature has good news for you.

With the passage of HB 1135, lawmakers okayed the delivery of beer, wine and liquor to Mississippians over the age of 21. Customers will be required to verify their age and show ID when the product is delivered.

Package stores must obtain a delivery permit and will be able to send employees (21+) on delivery runs or use independent contractors. Delivery drivers will have to go through training that addresses “topics such as identifying underage persons, intoxicated persons, and fake or altered identification.” Any alcohol will be returned to the store if the customer appears to be intoxicated or cannot verify their age.

Deliveries will be prohibited before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m. as well as on Sundays and Christmas Day.

The bill passed both the House and Senate Sunday and it now awaits the governor’s signature.
