Organizations, nonprofits, and community members throughout the state have come together to collect resources for those affected by Friday night’s severe weather and tornadoes.
On Sunday morning, Governor Tate Reeves’ request for Individual and Public Assistance was approved by the White House, allowing residents to receive grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs.
Residents in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties who sustained losses can now apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
At this time, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is partnering with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce to accept donations of bottled water, canned goods, and paper products.
Those interested in donating to help residents in the affected counties can drop items off at the following locations:
- National Guard Armory/Civic Center at 19719 US 61 in Rolling Fork
- Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson – Sunday through Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Crossway Church at 1825 Hwy 61S in Vicksburg – Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Walmart in Amory and Yazoo City will also be distributing food and water for victims of the severe weather on Sunday. Each car will be able to pick up one pack of water, as well as receive food from the Operation BBQ Mobile Feeding Unit.
Here’s when each Walmart will be holding a Water Giveaway on Sunday, March 26:
- 10:00 a.m. – Amory Walmart Parking Lot (1515 Highway 278 E)
- 12:00 p.m. – Yazoo City Walmart Parking Lot (2129 Grand Avenue)
