Hurricane season in the Magnolia State is just around the corner, leaving some Mississippians wondering what they should do to prepare.
According to Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney, one of the best ways to be equipped for the expected stormy weather is to pack a bag in case of an emergency.
The contents of the bag should include:
- Important documents: Insurance cards, Social Security cards, etc.
- Keep copies of important documents in a waterproof container or digital image saved online
- Cash
- Medications
- A battery-powered radio
- A gallon of drinking water for every family member and pet
Another way to be ready for the upcoming season is to check your insurance coverage for flood damage and special deductibles for losses caused by named storms.
“Don’t forget to review your insurance coverage and make sure you are familiar with your policies,” Commissioner Chaney said. “If you have questions, contact your insurance agent or insurer.”
