A pair of Mississippi hunters were trekking through the woods when they came across a set of skeletal remains.
The hunters were inside the Delta National Forest on Nov. 20 when they made the shocking discovery, according to Sharkey-Issaquena County Coroner Robert Barfield. The national forest is located in Rolling Fork and has an area of nearly 61,000 acres.
Law enforcement was called to the scene with Barfield saying the remains had been there for a significant amount of time.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case as the remains have been sent to the State Crime Lab in Pearl.
