Is now a good time to cut defense spending?

We hear plenty of stories about tax hikes and an overinflated infrastructure bill; but there was once a man who not only advocated for, but helped reduce what our nation spends on defense.  Admiral William Owens served as the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Clinton.

“We cut the Navy by 40% of the total spending.  I think it was about $600-billion total for the Department of Defense.  We cut the overall budget by over $200-billion dollars,” he told Paul Gallo during an interview on SuperTalk MS.

He believes they wound up with a better military at 60% of the cost as a result.  And he thinks it can be done again by taking real advantage of the new technologies available to today’s military.
