With airports nationwide settling back to normalcy following the federal government shutdown coming to an end earlier this month, officials at Mississippi’s largest airport are anticipating “a very busy” Thanksgiving travel period.

Peak travel at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers Internation (JAN) is set to go from Thursday, Nov. 20, through Monday, Dec. 1. Per a press release, thousands are expected to take the airways to and from Jackson during the period.

Officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) encourage passengers to arrive at least two hours before their flight departures, ensuring ample time for parking, security procedures, and picking up a pre-flight bite to eat. JAN now boasts several dining options, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Samuel Adams Brewhouse, Riverbanks Bar & Grill, and Sunrise Café.

“At JMAA, we strive every day to deliver exceptional travel experiences for all passengers and visitors and will continue working to ensure your journey through JAN is as seamless as possible,” JMAA CEO Rosa Beckett stated. “With our truly professional TSA and FAA partners, along with JMAA staff, travelers should be comfortable knowing that their safe and efficient travel is of paramount importance at JAN.”

Nationwide, the Thanksgiving travel period is projected to see six million travelers take to the skies during the week of the actual holiday.
