Law enforcement in Jackson is investigating after an infant child was beaten to death.
Police Chief Joseph Wade reports that JPD responded to a call Thursday morning at Sunset Apartments involving an unresponsive one-year-old. The baby was discovered bruised up and in critical condition.
Officers and medical professionals arrived at the scene around 10 a.m. and immediately transported the child to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. The infant was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The one-year-old’s mother and a neighbor are currently persons of interest in the crime, according to police. Another person of interest is also being sought out by authorities.
Child Protective Services was called because there were other children in the apartment unit.
