Jackson State has the highest social media reach out of any HBCU in the nation, a new study shows.
According to the 2023 Rival IQ Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report, Jackson State has more engagement across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X than 106 other eligible Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
“We are proud to be recognized by Rival IQ as a frontrunner in social media engagement among our peer institutions nationwide,” Alonda Thomas, JSU associate vice president for marketing and communications, said. “Our goal is to use our platforms to amplify Jackson State University’s achievements and share our story of student success, academic prominence, and research excellence with our diverse audience of students, alumni, and supporters.”
Jackson State moved up 30 spots from 2022 to No. 37 among all Division I schools. In the Magnolia State, JSU trails only Ole Miss (No. 7) in social media engagement, topping larger schools in Mississippi State and Southern Miss.
The university’s social media presence has been the strongest on Facebook, where it landed at No. 11 out of Division I schools. On Twitter, or X, JSU came in at No. 15.
“We’re always humbled any time our work in the areas of social and digital media is recognized by our peers and industry insiders,” Spencer McClenty, JSU director of communications and digital media, said. “This recognition goes a long way in reaffirming that our methods are successful, and our goals are being reached.”
