The dream of becoming the next American Idol continues for Jackson State student Deshawn Goncalves.

The 19-year-old member of the Sonic Boom of the South is one of just 12 singers remaining in the national competition after his performance of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Higher Ground’ had the judges on their feet Sunday night.

Coming up this Sunday, Goncalves and the other finalists will compete for a spot in the Top 9.
