Jackson under boil water notice, local state of emergency due to low water pressure

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has declared that the city is currently under a local state of emergency as complications at the O.B. Curtis Water Plant continue due to freezing temperatures.

According to the mayor’s office, the water pressure at both Jackson water treatment facilities began fluctuating over the weekend, with a citywide boil water notice going into effect on Christmas Day.

Production at the plants was initially slowed to identify significant leaks in the water system, but the city’s water pressure continues to be low despite increased production on Monday.

At this time, areas in south Jackson, west Jackson, and Byram are reporting little to no water pressure, as well as scattered neighborhoods throughout the area. Residents experiencing water leaks have been asked to call 311 or 601-960-1111 during normal business hours, or 601-960-1875 if after hours.

The city has released the following water distribution sites for Monday:

South Jackson:

  • 2:00 p.m. at Candlestick Plaza off Cooper Rd, Jackson

Northwest Jackson:

  • 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Northside Drive and Manhattan Rd near Smillow Prep

West Jackson:

  • 2:00 p.m. at Metro Center Mall near old Dillard’s Loading Dock

Byram:

  • 2:00 p.m. at Davis Road Park and 2515 Davis Road

If you are unable to travel to a distribution site, please call 311 or 601-960-1875.
