A Jasper County judge has been arrested twice within 48 hours this week for charges relating to domestic violence and violating a court order.
Justice Court Judge Sullivan Dukes, Jr. was taken into custody on Tuesday after police received reports involving simple assault and domestic violence, but was released several hours later.
According to the affidavit, Dukes was accused of “committing an act of domestic violence being in a verbal and physical altercation” against his wife, resulting in his arrest.
The next day, Dukes was arrested yet again by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for violating a court order requiring him to not have any contact with his wife.
The 72-year-old Paulding native was also released the same day. His hearing date has been set for Jan. 3, 2024.
Dukes currently serves as District 1 Justice Court Judge for Jasper County, with his current term set to end with the swearing-in of Jacqueline Lovett Barnett next month.
