Jones County mother-daughter duo accused of robbing Dollar General, attacking clerk with bear spray

A woman is behind bars and her mother is wanted after the duo allegedly attacked a Dollar General employee in Mississippi with bear spray while robbing the store.

Deputies with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said the two suspects – Kendriuna Rogers, 21, and Tishina Shuntel Smith, 35 – entered the Dollar General store on Highway 529 in Hebron on Nov. 20. They sprayed the cashier before fleecing the shelves and making a getaway inside a silver Nissan Altima.

JCSD announced that Rogers turned herself in Monday, but Smith is still on the run. Rogers is charged with robbery and awaiting her initial court appearance, which is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Laurel Leader-Call, a shoplifting incident that had taken place at a local Lowe’s hardware store just days before led to investigators identifying Rogers and Smith. The newspaper added that the incident at Lowe’s included over $800 worth of merchandise being stolen. The amount taken from Dollar General has yet to be determined, but it’s believed the duo took a cart full of laundry detergent and baby diapers.

JCSD also confirmed that the Dollar General clerk sprayed was treated at a hospital and later released.
