Congressman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., has announced that Jackson State University has been awarded $159,865 by the National Science Foundation for a new project.
The project is called the “Collaborative Research BPE Track 3: Minority Mentoring for Advancement and Participation in Engineering Hub,” and will be under the leadership of JSU professor Dr. Abdelnasser Eldek.
One of the goals is to positively impact the completion rates of students pursuing engineering degrees while also improving the career preparation of engineering students at participating minority-serving institutions, which will enhance the diversity of the US engineering workforce.
Another objective is to employ the interest of HBCUs, leading companies, and non-profit organizations to collaboratively transform the human capital through inclusive mentoring, thus creating a culture change towards an impactful, resilient career.
