In honor of Juneteenth, the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum will be offering free admission on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) has announced that Ingalls Shipbuilding, Mississippi’s largest manufacturer, is sponsoring the event at the Two Mississippi Museums.

Juneteenth officially became a national holiday in 2021 with the purpose to honor and remember the emancipation of slaves in the United States.

“We are honored to provide our shipbuilders and fellow Mississippians with the opportunity to learn more about our state’s African American history,” Ingalls Shipbuilding President Kari Wilkinson said, adding that she hopes people in attendance will gain a deeper appreciation for the pioneers of civil rights.

Juneteenth-themed tours will be available at both museums on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19 between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m.
