An inmate in Mississippi was captured after a brief escape, one that did not last through the afternoon.

According to a press release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lorenzo Shaw “walked away” from his assigned work detail along County Road 104 on Monday around 2:30 p.m. The deputy supervising the crew took notice almost immediately and called for backup to secure and search the area.

Deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. Shaw was located and apprehended without incident following the search.

“This was a great example of our deputies working quickly and effectively,” Sheriff Joey East said. “I’m proud of how fast they responded and brought this situation to safe resolution.”

Shaw is expected to face additional charges in connection with the escape. He was initially booked into jail for nonviolent offenses.
