Law enforcement in Mississippi’s capital city is investigating the death of a baby.
According to the Jackson Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Forest Avenue Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report that an infant had died.
Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered that the mother had taken her young child, who was said to be unresponsive, to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. The baby was ruled dead at UMMC.
The Hinds County coroner reported to police that the child had signs of trauma on the body and could have been lifeless for roughly 10 hours before being checked into the hospital.
JPD has since taken the unidentified mother in for questioning. Other family members are expected to be brought in for questioning as well. No arrests have been made at this time.
