There’s a new head football coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

The hiring of Les George was approved Tuesday night by the Southwest Mississippi Community College Board of Trustees. George, no stranger to the state’s JUCO scene, played and coached at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before most recently serving as offensive line and assistant head coach at Holmes Community College.

“As a player and a coach, I’ve been blessed to have been a part of some successful community college football teams,” George said. “And I look forward to taking that experience and using that to lead the Southwest Community College football program.”

In addition to stops at Mississippi Gulf Coast and Holmes, George spent three seasons as the offensive line coach at Belhaven University. Throughout his career as a coach, George has been part of multiple record-breaking teams and has coached a handful of All-Americans.

In 2024, George helped lead Holmes to a 7-3 overall record and an appearance in the MACCC semifinals. He takes over a Southwest program that went 1-8 and failed to make the playoffs.
