LIST: Schools closing Wednesday due to inclement weather

Multiple schools in southern Mississippi will be closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather expected to impact the region.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is continuing to monitor the potential for severe storms. Most of the state could be impacted, especially the southern portion.

In response, the following schools will not be opening their doors for the safety of students and staff:

  • Covington County Schools
  • Forrest County Schools
  • George County School District
  • Greene County Schools
  • Heritage Christian Academy
  • Hinds Community College
  • Jones County Schools
  • Lamar Christian School
  • Lamar County Schools
  • Laurel School District
  • Lawrence County School District
  • Marion County Schools
  • North Pike Schools
  • Pearl River Community College
  • Pearl River County Schools
  • Petal School District
  • Sacred Heart Catholic School
  • Simpson County School District
  • Sylva Bay Academy
  • Wayne Academy
  • Wayne County School District
  • West Jasper School District
  • William Carey University

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, the severe storm system will begin moving into the western part of the state around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Damaging winds, hail the size of golf balls, and tornadoes are possible.
