Update: William Carey University is no longer on lockdown after gunfire happened near the school’s Hattiesburg campus. Hattiesburg Police responded to the incident and university officials sent an “all clear” notification to students and staff.

William Carey University’s Hattiesburg campus is currently on lockdown after reports of gunfire near campus.

Sources tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that shots were fired near the school’s Health Science Building on Wednesday morning.

A university official sent out an email to students, faculty, and staff saying, “Hey everyone — in an overabundance of caution, please get into a room that can be locked.”
