Officers with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office are currently searching for an inmate who escaped from jail on Tuesday night.
According to officials, 42-year-old Terry Brooks escaped from the Lowndes County Jail with another inmate around 8:00 p.m.
The two reportedly cut out a portion of a window and crawled through the prison’s ventilation system before making it over the perimeter fence. Both then went under a second fence, with the other inmate being captured by officers moments later.
Brooks was serving time for charges connected to the murder of 20-year-old Frank Edwards on 12th Avenue South in Columbus in December 2020.
He was also arrested by U.S. Marshals in St. Louis, Mo. one year ago after jumping out of a two-story building while carrying cocaine and a gun.
Officials are warning that Brooks is considered dangerous and are asking the public to call 911 if they have any information on his whereabouts.
