The Magnolia State has officially welcomed the newest adjutant general of the Mississippi National Guard.

Major General Bobby M. Ginn, Jr., assumed command as the 53rd adjutant general of the Mississippi National Guard during a ceremony at the state capitol on Friday. He fills the shoes of Major General Janson D. Boyles who served eight years in the position and recently retired.

“When our Mississippians see our camouflage dispersed in communities, know that they are your fellow citizens who are also soldiers and airmen,” Ginn said. “Everything we as leaders do is done ultimately for the betterment of our soldiers, airmen, and their families.”

Ginn now operates as the commanding general of both the Mississippi Army and Air National Guard. He is responsible for providing the state and nation with a ready force of more than 12,500 citizen soldiers and airmen, equipped, and trained to respond to any contingency, natural or manmade.

Ginn has over 34 years of military service, beginning his military career in 1990 as an enlisted soldier and commissioned as a Logistics Officer in 1993 through Officer Candidate School.

He was a vital part of the Mississippi Army National Guard’s large-scale response effort to provide support throughout the state after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2006, he served as the support operations officer for the 106th Support Battalion and later served as the company commander of the 1387th Quartermaster Company where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007-08.

Following his overseas assignment, he served as the maintenance director at Joint Force Headquarters in 2008 with follow-on assignments as the commander of the 2nd Ordinance Training Battalion, 154th Regiment Regional Training Institute; 66th Troop Command Logistics Officer; and Plans Officer for the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

Later in 2015, Ginn served as the future operations branch chief, distribution management division chief, and surface maintenance division chief. In 2017, Ginn was appointed as the commander of Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center with a follow-on assignment as the Mississippi Army National Guard’s deputy chief of staff for logistics in 2020.

In April 2024, he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed as the director of joint staff for the Mississippi National Guard. Ginn has served as a dual-status federal technician for 28 years.

He is a native of Tylertown and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Science from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College.
