An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Rankin County left one person dead.
According to a press release, the shooting happened on Sunday around 4 p.m. on Walker Drive just off McCullough-McLin Road. Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call about a man threatening family members at a residence.
Upon arriving, the man is said to have fired his weapon at deputies. They returned fire, striking him. He was taken to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
No deputies were seriously injured in the incident. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
