A multi-agency manhunt in Jones County has come to an end after an escaped fugitive was captured late Tuesday morning.

Authorities announced that narcotics agents captured Danny Dason Pettit, 42, in a wooded area around Jessie Malone Road. Pettit evaded law enforcement in nearby Wayne County earlier in the morning before wrecking a car and fleeing on foot, all with a handcuff still on his left hand.

“Great job this morning by our personnel who were involved in the manhunt for Danny Dason Pettit,” Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin said. “We thank residents in the area on and around Jessie Malone Road for being vigilant and immediately passing along information to us during the manhunt.”

Pettit was spotted by a JCSD lieutenant around 9:50 a.m. before trying to flee again. He was quickly taken into custody and has since been transported to the Wayne County Jail. Additional charges are expected for the registered sex offender from Lafayette County.
