Mississippians will be able to fish without a license on any public water across the state in celebration of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4.
According to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), residents will be invited to participate in a “Free Fishing Day.”
The MDWFP is encouraging those interested to take advantage of the opportunity and visit one of the 19 state lakes or 18 park lakes located throughout Mississippi.
“Free Fishing Days” were created by the MDWFP in an effort to allow individuals to try fishing for the first time or for seasoned anglers to introduce someone new to the sport.
While a license isn’t required to sport fish, permits to fish at a state-owned lake will still be required.
