Mega Millions jackpot nears $1 billion heading into Friday’s drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot has risen to nearly $1 billion after no ticket matched all six numbers during the Tuesday night drawing.

The winning numbers from the drawing were white balls 25, 29, 33, 41, and 44, plus the gold Mega Ball 18. There were 2,904,737 total winning tickets during Tuesday’s drawing alone, with prizes ranging from two to four million dollars.

Six tickets matched the five white balls to win the Mega Million’s second-tier prize, with one being sold in Mississippi. The ticketholder, who purchased the optional Megaplier for a dollar, broke the record for bringing in the largest Mega Millions prize in Mississippi after receiving a prize of $4 million.

So far, there have been 23 consecutive drawings over the past two months without a winner, making the current jackpot rise to take the spot as the sixth-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. On top of making history across the nation, the jackpot has been ranked the fourth-largest in Mega Millions history.

The last winning drawing was on October 14, where two players – one from Florida and one from California – took home the $502 million jackpot. One week ago, five tickets nationally matched the first five numbers drawn, with one of the winning tickets being sold in Vancleave.

Now, the prize is sitting at an estimated $940 million, or $483.5 million cash, for the next drawing on Friday, January 6.
