A Meridian police officer has been arrested and charged with statutory rape involving a 12-year-old girl.

The arrest of Lieutenant Kevin Michael Boyd was announced by the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. According to the report, Boyd surrendered on Tuesday after a report was filed with Child Protection Services earlier this year.

“During the investigation, enough evidence was found to charge Boyd with Rape – Statutory,” the report reads. “On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, after the arrest warrant was signed by a judge, contact was made between Sheriff (James) Moore and the Meridian Police Department. Arrangements were made to have Boyd brought to the sheriff’s department in DeKalb by the police department for Boyd to turn himself in.”

Boyd had his bond set at $100,000. The name of the alleged victim is being withheld due to age.
