A Mexican national will spend 20 years in federal prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being convicted and deported for a sex crime in Mississippi.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Luis Javier Sanchez-Zurita was found in Brandon this past February after previously being convicted of an aggravated felony and sent back to his home country in 2017.

Sanchez-Zurita was stopped by a Brandon Police officer for carelessly driving, driving under the influence, and endangerment of a child. The subject pled guilty in August to illegal reentry after being deported following a state felony conviction for the gratification of lust.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenda R. Haynes prosecuted the case.
