It’s almost that time of year when Mississippians can cheer on their favorite high schools on the gridiron and the hardwood, but the Mississippi High School Activities Association has announced that things will be done a little differently starting this upcoming season.
According to the MHSAA, a running clock will be started in both football and basketball if a team is leading by more than 35 points at halftime or at any point in the second half. In addition, game officials will have the authority to make this call without consent from team coaches.
The only clock stoppages will be for free throws, timeouts, ends-of-periods, injuries, and when an official determines that there is a safety issue.
