Day two of the Miss America competition is underway in Uncasville, Connecticut with Miss Mississippi Emmie Perkins set to compete in the talent preliminary Tuesday night.
Perkins, a native of McComb, will take the stage as a singer. The Mississippi State graduate has been singing since she was about 10 years old and recently released her first-ever single called “There She Is.”
“Tonight, I will take the Miss America stage doing the thing that I love the most and that’s singing,” Perkins said on Good Things with Rebecca Turner. “I’m singing [a song] that I actually sang for the first time my junior year of high school, and now, I’m singing it on the Miss America stage. It’s an all-time favorite of mine, and I’m excited for you guys to find out what it is in just a few short hours.”
Perkins competed in the Red Carpet Evening Wear, on-stage question, and social impact phases of the competition Monday night. She was selected as a finalist, alongside Miss Alabama Lindsay Fincher and Miss Kentucky Hannah Edelen, for the Social Impact Initiative Scholarship.
The second night of preliminaries as well as Thursday night’s crowning can be streamed at pageantslive.com.
