A missing man from Hurley has been found dead in Alabama.

The body of Joseph Ladnier, who authorities had been searching for since Christmas Eve, was discovered on a road in Chunchula just outside the city of Mobile. Ladnier was reported missing after he never showed up at his son’s house in Moss Point on Sunday.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, deputies discovered Ladnier’s red 2004 Toyota Tundra on Thursday backed into an abandoned driveway in the 9100 block of Chunchula Landfill Road. Detectives responded to the scene with canines, who were able to track a scent to a home down the street, but no one was inside.

On Friday around 2 p.m., authorities confirmed that the 60-year-old’s body had been discovered near where the vehicle was parked.

While no cause of death has been determined, the MCSO did reveal what was found inside Ladnier’s truck: a pillow, a computer bag with a laptop inside, $146 in cash, and a pistol holder with no pistol.

This is an ongoing investigation.
