Missing man’s body found burnt on side of Mississippi highway; one suspect still on loose

The body of a missing Mississippi man was found burnt on the side of a highway on Monday.

Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley said a father came into his office to file a missing person’s report on his son. Within a few hours, Mississippi Department of Transportation crews came across a body on Highway 472 near Rockport Road and immediately contacted law enforcement.

The body was quickly identified as the man’s son, Billy Ray Jones, Jr. The 54-year-old’s remains had visible burn wounds present when officers arrived.

Two men have since been tabbed as behind the disappearance and murder of Jones. Matthew Nelson, 50, was taken into custody and charged. Law enforcement is still searching for Tyrell Bridges, 32, who is considered armed and dangerous.
