Multiple children from disadvantaged backgrounds will soon be walking into a winter wonderland in central Mississippi.
The Mississippi Air National Guard’s 172nd Airlift Wing is hosting its 18th annual Flight to the North Pole on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Teaming up with local radio station Y101 and the Salvation Army, they will transport 30 “angel tree children” to the “simulated” North Pole aboard a C-17 Globemaster III to receive a Christmas they will never forget.
Angel Tree is a holiday assistance program by the Salvation Army in which an individual or group sponsors a child and purchases new toys, clothing, shoes, or gift cards for the young person.
Once the children arrive at Santa’s Private Hanger, holiday elves will escort them to receive their gifts from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Each child will also receive a bicycle and helmet donated by residents.
Other events and activities will also take place.
