Mississippi airports to get more than $21 million in federal grants

A total of 52 grants from two federal funding programs have been awarded to airports across Mississippi totaling $21.48 million.

The grants are coming from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Infrastructure and Infrastructure Grant programs.  

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., made the announcement Friday. 

“Upgrading local air travel is an investment in the future of Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said in a statement. “This funding will bring necessary advancements to our airport systems and provide more business opportunities for Mississippians. I look forward to these improvements being made to spur economic development in our great state.” 

The following airports and municipalities will receive funding as part of the Airport Improvement Program, totaling $11,582,235: 

City of Hattiesburg – $233,510 

City of Columbus – $150,000 

City of Carthage and County of Leake – $404,519 

Cities of Drew & Ruleville & Sunflower County – $506,988 

City of Grenada – $595,646 

City of Madison – $185,725 

Clarksdale-Coahoma County Airport Board – $150,000 

City of Prentiss – $600,000 

City of Houston – $300,000 

County of Calhoun – $412,290 

City of Lexington – $106,099 

City of Indianola – $97,800 

County of Columbia & Marion – $809,984
