Mississippi Aquarium has changed the date of its Hancock Whitney Sea of Stars fundraising event from October 17 to October 24.
“Why? Well, the NFL had the audacity to schedule a primetime, Thursday night home game for the New Orleans Saints on the 17th,” a witty release from Mississippi Aquarium reads.
“Many of our supporters threw a penalty flag and said that they would be going to the game. At that point, we huddled up with the event sponsor, Hancock Whitney, and together we decided to call an audible (last-minute change of play) and push our annual fundraiser to the next week.”
Officials are calling on the public to show up in droves to financially support the work being done at the Gulfport facility. The theme for this year’s event is “Let’s Glow for It,” and attendees are encouraged to dress business casual with a touch of neon and anything else that will glow in the black lights.
Mississippi Aquarium is hosting Sea of Stars with the goal of raising $125,000 to support a new habitat for its African penguins. Attendees will be able to indulge in gourmet dining, bespoke cocktails, and popular New Orleans, party band — The Chee-Weez.
“Your presence and generosity will ensure that future generations can marvel at the wonders of our oceans right here in Mississippi,” a statement from the aquarium reads.
