As tornado activity has been reported in Mississippi over the past 24 hours, the threat continues into Saturday as millions of people across the South are being urged to prepare for severe weather.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in southeastern Mississippi on Friday afternoon. NWS then issued an alert on Saturday morning, saying parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are under a tornado watch until 3 p.m. CT.

Additionally, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is warning that intensified conditions could be seen across the state further into the afternoon going into Saturday night. Damaging winds, heavy rain, hail up to golf ball size, and long-tracked tornadoes are all possible.
Parts of Mississippi are now under a Moderate (4 out of 5) risk for severe storms today (12/28/2024). Some could see damaging wind gusts, up to 80mph, hail, and possible tornadoes, some of which could be strong and long-tracked.
