Moonshine Mississippi, an alcohol delivery business based in Madison, has continued to expand its reach across central portions of the state.
It’s been eight months since the business was approved to receive the first alcohol delivery license in Mississippi following Governor Tate Reeves’ signing of House Bill 1135.
The bill, which was passed during the 2021 legislative session, allows the delivery of beer, wine, and liquor to Mississippians over the age of 21. Language in the bill specifies that deliveries must be within 30 miles of the retailer’s location and cannot be made within dry counties or cities.
Those who order alcohol through Moonshine Mississippi’s website or app can choose from a selection of four local stores from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The stores currently participating include Barleys Beer Barn, Colony Wine Market, Madison Cellars, and Ridgeland Wine and Spirits.
According to WLBT, owner and creator of Moonshine Mississippi, Raj Ramarao, is looking to branch out to others areas of the state, specifically Hinds and Rankin counties as well as Starkville and Oxford.
“A lot of times when I go to the customers’ homes they are first of all surprised that this is legal in Mississippi and they’re surprised that somebody’s actually doing it, and some people place orders just to try it out to see if it’s real or not,” said Ramarao.
