On Thursday morning, gas prices in Mississippi reached the highest the state’s ever seen.
According to the AAA motor club, the current average per gallon price for regular fuel in Mississippi is up to $3.97 while the national average stands at $4.31. It’s also the highest-ever in terms of diesel with Mississippi prices at $4.87 per gallon.
Earlier this week, President Joe Biden announced a ban on all Russian energy imports in retaliation for Vladimir Putin’s continued attacks on Ukraine. During the announcement, Biden added that Americans will inevitably feel the pain of the decision at the gas pumps.
“We remain united in our purpose to keep pressure mounting on Putin and his war machine. This is a step that we’re taking to inflict further pain on Putin, but there will be costs as well here in the United States,” Biden said. “Defending freedom is going to cost. It’s going to cost us as well in the United States. Republicans and Democrats alike understand that.”
The previous record for the highest gas prices in Mississippi was set on July 16, 2008.
