A major company’s CEO being caught up in a “kiss cam” scandal has turned into a marketing opportunity for the Mississippi Mud Monsters.
As you’re likely already aware, Andy Byron, an executive of the software company Astronomer, was allegedly spotted in an awkward moment with his chief human resources officer, Kristin Cabot, on a “kiss cam” at a Coldplay concert. Byron appeared to be embracing Cabot as the camera panned onto the two individuals. Byron bowed out of the frame while Cabot covered her face and turned around to hide herself. Byron, who is not married to Cabot, has since issued a public apology for the incident.
Awkward, right? Well, central Mississippi’s professional baseball team is looking to seize this viral moment as an opportunity to draw folks out to Trustmark Park at the end of the month.
“A billionaire got caught on the Kiss Cam at a Coldplay concert… and then tried to blame everyone but himself in a 900-word apology. We’re not saying that’s why we’re doing a Kiss Cam on Thirsty Thursday, July 31, but … yeah, it kinda is,” a social media post from the Frontier League club reads.
“Join us for Mud Monsters vs. Schaumburg Boomers, $2 beers, and your chance to have an awkward moment on the videoboard. Bring your wife. Bring your girlfriend. Bring your head of HR. Bring all three.”
The Mud Monsters are preparing to begin a nine-game slate of road matchups on Friday before returning to Pearl on Tuesday, July 29. In the meantime, club officials are encouraging the public to prepare a nice guest list, maybe even someone you’re willing or unwilling to be caught with on a kiss cam, to bring to the ballpark for the July 31 promotion.
