One Mississippi baker has been selected by the Food Network to compete against four other bakers in the sixth season of the Christmas Cookie Challenge, which is set to air on Sunday, November 20.
In March, Madison resident Beth Hennington, otherwise known as “The Vanillan,” showed off her cookie-making skills in an effort to claim the title of Cookie Champion and walk away with the grand prize of $10,000.
According to Hennington, she originally sent in her audition tape three years ago, quickly forgetting about the video until a casting director contacted her.
“One night around 7:00, a casting guy called and he was like, ‘I don’t know how this jewel slipped through the cracks, but I’m going to need to talk to you,’” Hennington explained. “Then the interview process began. It was rigorous, almost a year. I mean, it was intense.”
This season alone, over 2,000 bakers auditioned to be featured on the show, which only selected 40 total applicants to compete over eight episodes.
Hennington stated that the timed competition consists of five bakers participating in the first round and three in the second round, with the winner of the second round walking away with the grand prize and title.
Each cookie will be judged by the competition’s hosts, former NFL player Eddie Jackson and Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond.
The first episode of the competition will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on the Food Network, with Herrington to be featured in the third episode.
“I had a great time. It was an experience that I was so blessed to have,” Herrington said. “Who gets to do that? I mean, it was just a great time.”
