Two Mississippi colleges and four players are representing the state in the 2024 HBCU NFL Combine on Monday. The event, which began at 11 a.m. at the New Orleans Saints’ indoor practice facility.
The combine, a collaboration between the NFL and the HBCU Legacy Bowl, began in X and provides players from historically black colleges and universities before the NFL Draft in April. This year’s HBCU combine features 47 student-athletes with scouts, executives, and representatives from most teams in attendance.
The players from Mississippi are as follows.
Jaheem Hazel, Jackson State DB
The Wofford transfer, who was named second-team All-SWAC, contributed to the Tigers’ success with four interceptions.
Jarveon Howard, Alcorn State RB
The Columbia native led the SWAC in rushing yards (773) while being named first-team all-conference running back for the Braves. Howard added seven touchdowns on the ground.
John Huggins, Jackson State DB
During his five-year career for the Tigers, the safety accumulated 62 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four interceptions.
Dwayne “DJ” Stevens, Jackson State TE
The Ridgeland native had a two-year career with the Tigers and had 602 yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions. Stevens was named second-team All-SWAC in 2023.
